Summary
On foot
Our house is right in the middle of the centre of Ghent. Hoogpoort connects the conservatory with townhall and the castle Gravensteen. 200 meter from the mediaeval harbour (Graslei and Korenlei) and 300 meter from a crossing of two GR, long-distance walking routes.
By bike
You cycle to the townhall of Ghent. This is 200 meter from our house. Then take (or ask) direction castle Gravensteen. Bikes can be taken inside. You did not bring your bike? No problem, we have two bikes available for our guests.
Public transport
After arrival at Gent Sint Pieters Railway Station take tram 1, in the direction of Wondelgem or Evergem. Get off at the castle "Gravensteen", this is not more than 10 minutes from the station. Walk back along the tram-rails, cross the bridge, pass the little square ("Groentenmarkt") and walk straigth into our street, Hoogpoort. Our house is at number 25.
After arrival at Gent Dampoort Railway Station take bus number 3 in the direction of Mariakerke. Get off at the fourth stop at the foot of the belfry ("Belfort"). Walk back about 100 meters in Belfortstraat and turn left right after passing the townhall. Now you are in our street, Hoogpoort.
By car
A taxi-rank can be found at 200 meter from our house (Korenmarkt).
If you come by car, take the P-route (a circular route around the city-centre, that connects all parking facilities) till you come at the underground parking "Vrijdagmarkt" : open 24/24. Price : € 10,00 per 24 hours. This is only 300 meters from our doorstep.
You can also park at Hospital Sint-Lukas (in "Lange Steenstraat" on the P-route on your right-hand side, turn into "Tichelrei", or enter this in your GPS). This parking is public. A little farther (500 metres), but with a lower price (€ 3,00 per 24 hours, to be renewed everyday). Parking in the street is to be payed expensively. Parking to be paid from 8.00 till 24.00 hrs.
If you care to come to our frontdoor (for charging/discharging only), follow P-route till the castle ("Gravensteen"). There you enter the pedestrian area, keeping the castle in your back, you drive straight into our street.
Be aware, Hoogpoort is in the pedestrian area with very restricted motorized traffic. Charging and discharging can be done only after 18.00 hrs and before 11.00 hrs. Parking and driving through is not permitted.
